Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon requested the government speed up consideration of a bill that would require state agencies and companies to communicate and issue official documents exclusively in Tajik. In addition, the bill would make knowledge of the local language compulsory for every Tajik citizen. The move has certainly angered Russia with Chairman of the State Duma's CIS Affaris Committee Alexei Ostrovsky warning that if the bill was adopted, Russia may be 'forced' in future to ban the employment of Tajik migrants who do not know Russian.
