Russia hosted a key summit conference attended by leaders of Brazil, India and China (the 'BRIC' countries) as well as other major emerging market nations. This was the first time a major summit conference was held between these four countries to discuss coordination on major world political and economic issues. While few specific policy proposals were finalised, the attendant countries did agree to broad pledges to work toward greater influence for developing nations in international financial institutions.
