Turkmenistan is being courted by a host of countries ogling its hydrocarbon riches. Aside from the much-talked-about Nabucco pipeline project which will link the Caspian sea region with Europe, recent months have seen activity with regard to the US-backed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gas pipeline with India joining in. The US is clearly keen to see Turkmenistan win regional supply deals, as opposed to Iran, which is also wooing neighbouring countries. As the number of countries reliant on Turkmen hydrocarbons grows its regional political clout should increase.
