Czech Voters To Back Austerity In October Elections

The upcoming senate and local elections will demonstrate whether the Czech public have the stomach for the austerity drive launched by the newly elected centre-right coalition government. While some of the measures so far unveiled have drawn criticism and stoked labour unrest, we do not believe that the government's fiscal clampdown has sown widespread discontent. Indeed, we expect the Czech public to consolidate the coalition's austerity mandate by handing a clear victory to the centre-right in the October elections.
