Local Elections To Consolidate Fidesz Strength

Local elections in Hungary on October 3 are expected to reinforce Fidesz's large majority in the national legislature given the party's strong popularity in recent opinion polls. Beyond the elections, we hold to our view that the populist stance adopted by Fidesz since taking power back in April will be toned down, with the government expected to refocus its attention on fiscal retrenchment in order to restore investor confidence in Hungary's economic recovery.
