Total money transfers sent back by Kyrgyz nationals working in Russia (a key source of remittances for Kyrgyzstan's economy) totalled US$204mn in the first quarter of 2010 compared to US$152mn during the same period of the previous year, a 34.2% y-o-y increase. Remittances, which are increasing in line with the global economy, will help to stem the economic impact of the devastation wrought during the country's recent political crisis.
