Foreign Minister Objects To Kosovan Independence
July 2010 | Ratings UpdateRomania's Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its opposition to Kosovan independence on July 26, reacting to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s ruling that the breakaway region did not breach international law by declaring independence in 2008. Romania supports Serbia over the issue, largely due to its own concerns over separatist movements in Transylvania. We believe that Romania will become increasingly isolated on the issue as more countries react to the ICJ's ruling, although China and Russia are likely to remain onside thereby minimising the potential fallout from the position.
