EU Visa Negotiations Underway

Speaking after the official start of negotiations with the EU for visa free travel, Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca expressed hope that the aim will be achieved in the near future. According to Leanca, the EU has so far expressed approval of Moldova's efforts to meet the requirements for the visa-free regime, including improved passports to make forgery more difficult and better border controls. We view the progress positively, though caution that Moldova has a long way to go towards eventual EU membership.
