Political stability in Lithuania remains on edge, with the centre-right coalition government only narrowly avoiding collapse in mid-May following an attempt by the opposition to impeach Minister of Transport and Communications Eligijus Masiulis. As Prime Minister Kubilius' government previously lost its parliamentary majority by one vote, losing Masiulius (who heads up coalition partners in the Liberals' Movement of the Republic of Lithuania), would have been a significant blow to Vilnius' ability to carry forth with its policy mandate over the coming quarters.
