Smer Likely To Rethink Coalition

We continue to believe that Prime Minister Robert Fico's centre-left Smer party will form the next government following June 12's parliamentary elections, given the party's lead over its opposition rivals in recent polls. However, with centre-right opposition parties making strong gains in the past months, it has become increasingly likely that Fico will seek out a new coalition partner given the low levels of support for Smer's current partners, and also as a way to distance Smer from the polarizing right-wing Slovak National Party.
