Hungary's parliament approved amendments to the constitution on May 20, which are aimed at reducing bureaucracy and streamlining decision-making in parliament. The amendments will result in the reduction of MPs to a maximum of 200, from the current 386. Shortly thereafter, parliament voted in favour of extending citizenship to ethnic-Hungarians living abroad - a move which was met with harsh criticism from neighbouring Slovakia. Going forward, we stress that bilateral relations between Bratislava and Budapest will remain tense, though do not believe this latest development will result in a marked deterioration of diplomatic ties.
