February 2010 | Ratings UpdateAccording to preliminary data released by the State Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan's trade surplus contracted to US$2.3bn in 2009 down from US$4.1bn in 2008. Goods exports are expected to have risen by 2.3% while imports are believed to have fallen slightly by 2.7%. Russia remained Uzbekistan's primary trading partner, accounting for 21.0% of total trade turnover. Going forward, as regional and global demand for Uzbekistan's energy exports increases, we forecast the trade deficit rising back to US$3.6bn by the end of 2010.
