Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan's cotton production in 2009 came to 1.05mn tonnes, a 5.0% y-o-y increase from 2008 levels. Turkmenistan currently ranks as the sixth largest cotton producer in the world. However, while the cotton sector is subject to fluctuations in global demand, it remains comparatively underdeveloped and inefficient. Indeed, going forward, we believe the ability of the sector to drive growth within the wider economy will remain limited.
