Security Threats Heightened
November 2009 | Ratings UpdateRussia's outgoing ambassador to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, expressed deep concern over the weakening security situation within Tajikistan on October 1 as a result of the ongoing threat of Islamic militancy spreading north into Central Asia from Afghanistan. Whilst the Taliban has tightened its grip over the Afghan-Tajik border, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have also blamed Tajikistan for allowing members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, (IMU), to cross the border from Afghanistan.
