Enhancing Interoperability
November 2009 | Risk SummaryLithuania and Poland have been pushing for Ukraine membership of the NATO alliance. The three countries are likely to form a three-nation military brigade, to be known as LITPOLUKRBRIG, which would enhance Ukraine's ties with NATO. The brigade would be deployed in multinational operations, with shared command, training and costs. Though we certainly see the potential for increased military and intelligence cooperation among the Ukrainian, Polish and Lithuanian governments going forward, we caution that Ukrainian membership in NATO remains highly unlikely.
