'Gas Politics' Key To Short-Term Stability

Ukraine's parliament remains dysfunctional, and we expect stability to deteriorate further in the run-up to presidential elections in January 2010. In the short term we highlight the government's failure to raise domestic gas prices as a key source of political risk, particularly given the importance the IMF has placed on Kiev's commitment to shore up the finances of state energy firm Naftogaz.
