Increased Risk Of Violence

Deputy Defence Minister Ramil Nadyrov warned on September 17 that fighting between the Taliban and US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan may mean increased violence in Tajikistan. Central Asian countries have already seen a series of gun battles in recent months, which have been blamed on a spill over of Taliban forces into neighbouring states, as the violence in Kunduz and other Afghan provinces bordering Tajikistan has escalated. We hold to our view that the threat of Islamist insurgent activity will remain pronounced going forward, particularly if the increasingly intense fighting in northern Afghanistan
