Kyrgyz police arrested six members of the banned Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir on August 7, months after the country reported a series of gun battles with a militant group linked to Afghanistan's Taliban. Recent military offensives by US and Pakistani forces in neighbouring areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan have pushed militants across the border into Kyrgyzstan, heightening fears of further radical Islamist activity in the country. Despite the increased threat, we do not foresee significant threats to government stability, and as such hold to our core view for fairly strong policy continuity going
