The Czech Republic's interim government released its proposed 2010 state budget on September 21. The plan includes simultaneous tax increases and spending cuts, which the government estimates will save a total of CZK75.7bn next year, bringing the state budget deficit down to an estimated 4.1% of GDP. Despite the broad-based support enjoyed by Fischer's technocratic government, and the general agreement amongst the two main parties that the 2010 deficit must be narrowed, the CSSD have raised a number of objections to the government's proposals, which threaten to derail the budget's passage through
