Macroeconomic Forecast Albania

September 2009 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

The Albanian lek continues to come under significant downside pressure, with the unit depreciating to record lows in early September. Trading at LEK133.39/EUR at one point on September 17, the currency looks set to push slightly lower in the near term. The unit's recent depreciation is of particular concern given that it has occurred at a time of a broad-based uptick in investor risk sentiment, which has helped push other currencies throughout the region higher. Going forward, we maintain our view that the lek will remain weak, and forecast the currency to come in at LEK132.00/EUR by end-year.
