Discontent Grows

In one of the largest signs of public discontent in several years, approximately 20,000 demonstrators protested through the streets of Kiev in early April, demanding the government's resignation. The protests, which filed into Independence Square, the same site as the 2004 'Orange Revolution', was led by the leader of the opposition, Viktor Yanukovych. The protests are indicative of growing discontent throughout the country, which is being fuelled by the macroeconomic and financial markets crisis currently engulfing the country. Going forward, we caution that the risks of further protests remain elevated.
