February 2009 | Risk SummaryFollowing a two-day meeting of alliance defence ministers in Krakow Poland on February 20, NATO urged Ukraine to carry ahead with costly military reforms despite the ongoing economic and financial market crisis engulfing the country. Although NATO acknowledged the financial difficulties the government will face in 2009, it nevertheless cautioned Kiev that ineffective and antiquated security measures would cost the country more in the long run.
