Under More Pressure
June 2006 | Ratings UpdateAfter organising several anti-government rallies in April and May, the opposition has now challenged the administration to implement reforms and stamp out corruption over the summer, or resign by September. Political discontent continues over a year after the ‘Tulip revolution’, making preparations for a constitutional referendum later in the year increasingly difficult. Add to this the recent murder of a notorious politician often linked with organised crime, and a cabinet reshuffle, and it is apparent that political instability is set to remain in Kyrgyzstan in 2006.
