Another Untimely Corruption Scandal
August 2004 | Political Risk AnalysisThe results of elections for the European parliament, won comprehensively by a populist, centre-left Labour Party, attest to the struggle facing the ruling coalition ahead of the appointment of a new parliament in October. BMI View: After a series of corruption scandals which have undermined public support, we believe that the government will be unable to rely solely on economic and foreign policy achievements as a basis for re-election. Anti-corruption campaigning, and populist politics, should see an increase in support for the Labour Party at the expense of the more-established parties.
