The country’s shaky government has survived the departure of one of its members, the New Union (Social Liberals), but for how long? The remaining three parties control 70 of the 141 seats in parliament, which suggests they could struggle to implement policies – provided they can agree them first. There are several issues that could trigger rifts in coalition ranks in the short term. These include the regulation of the gas industry, the future of oil refiner Mazeikiu Nafta and whether a parliamentary investigation should be launched into the activities of President Valdas Adamkus.
