Balanced Budget Ahead?

Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has announced plans to run a balanced budget in 2009. This would be down from an initial target of 0.8% of GDP, and would be the first time that there has been no fiscal deficit since independence. However, it is going to prove difficult to keep the unions on side amid plans for a wage freeze, and we anticipate that there will be significant political ructions ahead.
