MPRP Wins Local Elections
October 2008 | Risk SummaryAccording to preliminary data from the Mongolian election commission, the governing Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) won a majority of seats in local elections held on October 12. The main opposition Democratic Party (MP) only won four out of 21 aimags and districts with only two jurisdictions electing large majorities for the party. The result clearly reinforces the MPRP's political legitimacy at the national level and should go some way to easing the policy formation process going forward.
