EU Trade Benefits Remain On Hold

Serbia was dealt a setback in its efforts for greater integration with the EU on September 15, when the bloc failed to unanimously agree to extend trade benefits to the country. The decision comes despite a favourable report from the United Nations' war crimes tribunal on Belgrade's cooperation with the court. Reports have indicated that most EU member states favoured unfreezing trade ties with Serbia, except for the Netherlands who insist that alleged war criminals, Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, must be arrested before trade links can be established.
