June 2008 | Risk SummaryLithuania's political parties are gearing up for parliamentary elections in October. The outcome is hard to predict but the consolidation of parties on the hitherto fragmented centre-right is likely to provide a serious challenge to the social democrat-led government. Populist parties could hold the balance of power in the next coalition government, however, increasing the risk of instability. Order and Justice (Liberal Democrats) and the Labour Party came first and third, respectively, in a recent opinion poll.
