June 2008 | Risk SummaryThe Centre Party, Estonia's main opposition party has been setting out its ideas for rejuvenating the ailing economy. The party recently voted against the governing coalition's expenditure-reducing supplementary budget, calling instead for the postponement of planned income tax cuts and for the state's fiscal reserves and EU funds to be used to boost economic activity. Centre leader and mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar says the government should refrain from a planned public sector pay freeze and instead ensure that nominal wages rise in line with prices. Credit policies should also be tightened to reduce the possibility of another credit boom
