Following the murder of Russian television journalist Ilyas Shurpayev, Tajik police arrested three suspects on March 29. The arrests were made following a tip off from Moscow based criminal investigators who had travelled to the region to assist in the investigation. The handling of the suspects by the Tajik authorities will be important for maintaining amicable relations with Russia. Indeed, Russia has proved sensitive to the treatment of its nationals in the ex-soviet states, and as such this latest episode may yet prove damaging to bilateral relations with
