Viktoras Muntianas, the leader of Civil Democracy, a junior member of the five-party ruling coalition, resigned as parliamentary speaker in late March after becoming involved in an alleged bribery scandal. But the campaign to oust Muntianas was also supported by deputies from some of the other parties of government, including members of the largest party, the Social Democratic Party.
