PDK Victory Signals Independence?

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) secured victory in the parliamentary elections on November 17, with the party's leader Hashim Thaci, likely to become the next Prime Minister. The PDK took a comfortable lead with 34% of the vote, compared to the more moderate Democratic League of Kosovo which only secured 23%. Despite the PDK taking the lead, a coalition between the two pro-independence parties is still on the cards. Although we believe independence is an increasingly likely prospect for Kosovo, a unilateral declaration of independence outside of the negotiating framework, could spell further disruption to domestic politics and regional
