Macroeconomic Forecast Moldova
October 2007 | Macroeconomic ForecastsWe are currently forecasting a moderate narrowing of Moldova's current account deficit to US$0.30bn this year, down from US$0.40bn in 2006. The narrowing is expected to come largely on the back of a decline in the trade deficit, which is projected at US$1.49bn this year, slightly down from US$1.59bn in 2006. Indeed, we are projecting Moldovan export growth of 33% this year, compared to just 10% y-o-y growth for imports. That said, the current account deficit rose to US$0.18bn in Q2 alone, compared to US$0.13bn during the same period in 2006.
