Sending In The Troops

In an effort to help fight the global war on terror and to further strengthen its NATO ties, Poland's defence minister, Bogdan Klich, had pledged to send an additional 400 soldiers to serve in Afghanistan in April or May. The new deployment will see Poland's military presence in Afghanistan strengthen to 1600 personnel, at a time when British forces are withdrawing troops. The decision is likely to prove unpopular with Polish voters, and with conflict escalating in Afghanistan, the Polish government is likely to come under increasing pressure to withdraw
