In Q207 retail trade increased by 4.8% y-o-y in Albania, with formal employment in the sector growing by 19.4%. These trends underpin a strengthening of the consumption side of the Albanian economy, and will help to keep the broader economy on track to reach our 2007 real GDP growth forecast of 6.0%. We foresee a similar rate of growth into next year, and beyond our forecast period expect the growth rate to remain elevated. Although this does in part reflect real improvements in the local economy, it also is a function of the Albanian economy playing 'catch-up' with neighbouring states
