Conflict Resolution In Sight
August 2007 | Ratings UpdatePrime Minister Janez Jansa announced on August 26 that Slovenia and Croatia have come to an informal agreement to resolve their lingering border dispute, which has severely strained the countries' bilateral relations over the past few years. We are encouraged by the governments' initiative, as we were concerned that an ongoing disagreement could taint Slovenia's H108 EU presidency during the first half of 2008 and jeopardise its efforts to raise the Balkan's profile in the EU. Furthermore, a resolution is also likely to remove a potential obstacle to Croatia's EU membership by 2010.
