Constitutional Amendments Secure Political Continuity

On May 22, Kazakhstan's president Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the constitutional amendments, which remove the limits on the number of terms he can serve, potentially providing him with a life-time presidency. Kazakhstan's parliament voted almost unanimously in favour of the amendments on May 18. This amendment will apply to Nazarbayev only, as future leaders will be constitutionally limited to a maximum of two terms in office.
