Government's Election Gains Signal Presidential Direction

Armenian President Robert Kocharian's likely successor, Serzihik Sarksyan, received a political boost after his Republican Party made major gains at recent parliamentary elections. Indeed, with all of Armenia's pro-presidential parties performing well, it is looking more and more probable that Kocharian's influence and policy direction will remain in place beyond 2008.
