Kremlin Parties Storm Regional Polls
March 2007 | Ratings UpdateAs expected, United Russia convincingly won March 11 regional election, coming first in 13 of the 14 polls for regional assemblies, with the other pro-Kremin party, the newly-formed Fair Russia, winning the other, Stavropol Krai. Overall, the Communist Party came second, with the liberal Union of Rightist Forces (SPS) the most successful opposition centre-right party. The results confirm BMI 's view that parties allied to the Kremlin dominate the December Duma election, with a Kremin-endorsed candidate willing the March 2008 presidential poll.
