EU Entry in 2009?
March 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee accepted a Croatian progress report on March 27, which lists 2009 as a possible date for Croatia's accession into the EU. This is the first time that a document has listed that year as a start for Croatia's membership, earlier than the widely expected post-2010 timeframe. While this is an encouraging development, with only five chapters open and two closed out of 35, Croatia still has a significant amount of work ahead in order to qualify for membership and accession is likely to occur a year or two beyond the 2009 target date.
