March 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe multiple geometry of international relations in Central Asia continues to grow. While on the one hand, the European Commission is looking to rapidly expand its representation in the region, with a full scale mission planned for Uzbekistan, formal political links with neighbours continue to grow. Uzbekistan has signed up to the Eurasian Economic Community - which groups it with Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan - and is making some progress towards implementing the necessary legislation. Of the initial 20 negotiating chapters, only 16 had been signed by the January 1 deadline. Co-ordinating national standards with these CIS countries
