February 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe Kyrgyz parliament has elected Azim Isabekov as the country's new prime minister following the departure of Felix Kulov who resigned in December. Kulov's failure to win two subsequent votes to reinstate him points to the still difficult, and divided, nature of Kyrgyz politics. Given the wranglings over the constitutional changes, which transferred powers from the presidency to parliament, we expect that the domestic climate will remain tense for some time.
