BMI View: The January-November 2006 trade deficit reached US$1.4bn, bearing out our full-year US$1.6bn estimate, as December sees a high volume of energy imports in the cold weather. We expect the current account deficit as a percentage of GDP to have reached double-digits in 2006. This is a somewhat worrying development, despite remittances equivalent to almost 25% of GDP: total inward FDI stock in early 2006 was estimated to be only US1.1bn.
