Better Neighbours

November 2006 | Risk Summary

A new 'Neighbourhood Policy Plus' for the EU, together with Romania's accession to the Union on January 1, 2007, is likely to be good news for Moldovan international relations, and should also help focus more attention on the frozen conflict in Transdniestria. Two proposed new EU packages, a 'pro-democracy fund' worth EUR300mn, and a second fund worth between EUR0.7-7bn to help co-fund investment projects, could also mean extra financial aid for Moldova's economy, if the proposals are passed in Brussels on November 29.
