Former senior HDZ member, and subsequent independent MP Branimir Glavas was arrested on 26 October, accused of war crimes against Serb civilians. Glavas maintains that the accusations are politically motivated, and date from his split with the ruling HDZ party in 2005. However, many international observers see the trial as a demonstration as to how willing the Croatian authorities are to investigate politically sensitive cases.
