July 2006 | Risk SummaryNegotiations on Kosovo stepped up this month, as the prime ministers and president of both Pristina and Belgrade met in Vienna for the first time to discuss the final status of the separatist province. As expected, little progress was made, with Serbia prepared to offer almost anything except independence - the only option as far as the Kosovan Albanians are concerned. We expect the deadlock to continue for some time, with 2007 the earliest a resolution can be forged.
