Investment Grade Rating Now In Sight

June 2006 | Economic Analysis

BMI View: Macedonia is now rated just one notch below investment grade by ratings agencies Standard & Poor's and Fitch at BB+, after the latter upgraded the sovereign from BB on June 13 2006. This reflects the ongoing improvements in the credit dynamics in the EU candidate country, and we expect further upgrades to occur over the coming years. An investment grade rating (BBB- or above) would open up additional opportunities for tapping the international financial markets, and reduce the cost of borrowing in non-concessional loan deals.
