June 2005 | Risk SummaryPreliminary results from the local elections held on May 15 show that whilst the ruling HDZ remain the strongest party, considerable gains by the opposition serve as a stark warning of growing public discontent. The opposition Social Democrats took several high profile cities and, embarrassingly for the government, ousted deputy Branimar Glavas won in his city and region of Osijek.
