No Thawing Ahead
June 2006 | Risk SummaryAnother meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia failed to deliver any breakthroughs in the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, despite optimism from international mediators. Unfortunately, presidential elections in both countries are due in 2008, with the conflict likely to become a key campaign issue. As such, we see little hope of a resolution to the problem before then, though believe that greater international involvement in encouraging and mediating dialogue will preclude any return to wide-spread
